Design and Images

Do I need to come into the office to place my order?

No, we are happy to work with you via phone and email to complete your order.

How do you translate my ideas into a design? Do I need to provide a picture of what I want my sign to look like?

We will work with any materials you have, whether it's a professional logo, a drawing, or an image in your head. Our design team will take your ideas and turn them into a professional product while ensuring that you have final approval of all graphics before prinitng.

How do I send you my designs?

Any file under 5mb can be sent via email. For files ranging from 5mb to 100mb you can use the upload tool found on every page of our website. Just click on the "Send Us A File" found on all the pages of our site or go here http://www.signsofseattle.com/send.php

What types of files do you accept?

Ideally, we prefer images in an EPS or PDF file, actual size, with a resolution of at least 100 dpi, but we are willing to work with any images or files you can provide.

Can I preview my lettering or sign before production? What is a "proof"?

We want you to preview your design before production! Once we receive a deposit on your order, our designers will create a "proof" or a digital preview of what your design will look like. Proofs are usually emailed within twenty-four hours of receiving your information and require your approval before your order is sent to print.

Do I need to look at a proof if I've already told you everything that I want?

We want to ensure that your finished product is exactly what you envision. A proof allows us to show you what to expect, lets you make any necessary changes and avoids the added cost that would be required to make alterations after we have produced quality materials.

Do I still need to approve a proof if I bring my work in on disk?

If you provide a design file that is 100% ready to go and we aren't required to make any changes, we can send it to print straight away. The one disadvantage is that this leaves no room for proofreading or obvious mistakes.

How does color matching work?

If you can encode a file with Pantone values, our system will match them with a high level of accuracy. We can also provide color proofs for your approval before printing. If you have any printed materials with a color that you like, such as a business card or letterhead with a logo, we can match that as closely as possible. You can also view a color chart and select a color here in our offices.

What is the difference between "printed vinyl" and "cut vinyl"?

"Printed vinyl" is printed directly onto the material, the same way that your desktop printer would print out a page. The graphics on a "cut vinyl" sign are literally cut out of colored material using our digital plotter and adhered directly to the sign. Cut vinyl is better suited towards simple graphics or text in fewer colors while printed vinyl can produce full color images.

What is Vector art?

Vector art is like line art. If you placed a pen onto a piece of paper and drew continuously, the lines would be vector shapes. Circles and squares are simple vector images. Our "knife" blade plotter cuts vinyl film by following the trace of the vector images.

What is a Raster image?

Raster is more of a photograph, with gradients, soft meshes, textures, etc. as opposed to spot color shapes as described above (vector art). You could not cut a Raster image out of vinyl. Raster images are usually printed as four color process prints.

Which programs will let me save in Vector formats?

Adobe Illustrator, Freehand, and Corel Draw are the most common software programs that can save in a vector format. Photoshop can export illustrator paths, and some other programs are also able to export their paths to illustrator file formats.

When do I save as a Raster Image, and when do I save as Vector?

Vector is the file format that you would use when the image is made with paths and fills, It's the only format you can cut vinyl from. Raster would be used for photos, complex images, gradation colors and all other images containing more than two or three colors. Raster images can only be printed.  Vector images can be printed or computer cut.

What sizes are available for banners?

We can make banners in ANY size! Some common dimensions include 2' x 6', 3' x 8', and 4' x 8' but we are happy to create custom-sized banners at no additional charge.

Do you make double-sided vinyl banners?

Yes, we can print double sided vinyl banners.

What are grommets? Do your prices include grommets and hemming?

Grommets are "Brass Eyelets", meaning they are circular brass fixtures placed into a banner . Grommets allow rope to be fed through the banner for easy and versatile installation. Our prices include a full-color banner with grommets and hemming.

Ordering

How long does it take to make a sign?

The amount of time required can vary based on the type of sign, design elements, installation requirements, etc. Most orders can be completed in about a week, and we are always open to working with our customers to meet specific deadlines and time frames.

How do I go about getting an estimate?

Well, since you are already here, we suggest you use our online estimate request form found on every page of our site. Otherwise, the best way to ensure that we get all of the information necessary to do an accurate quote is to call us at 206-292-SIGN (7446) and speak with one of our customer service representatives.

Installation

How do I apply vinyl lettering or graphics to my vehicle, boat, or window?

If you have simple lettering on a smooth surface that does not require an elegant and exact appearance then doing it yourself is a good option. We will include complete, easy to understand instructions and a squeegee, to make installation a breeze. You can also view these instructions  http://www.signsofseattle.com/instructions.php  For all complex lettering and designs, uneven surfaces or to ensure professional results we recommend taking advantage of our professional installation service.

Maintenance

Are your signs weatherproof? Will they fade in the sun?

Our signs are weatherproof and use UV technology designed to keep your colors vibrant when faced with sun, wind, rain or any other element.

How should I store and care for my banner?

Banners should be hung using all of the grommets (not just the corners) when in use and rolled, not folded, for storage with the image facing out. If your sign requires cleaning use a mild soap (dishwashing liquid, etc.) and water to hand wash the material.

How do I remove my vinyl lettering in the future?

Simply take a hair dryer, heat the edge of the vinyl and slowly peel back. You may need to use rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining residue.

How long will my vinyl lettering last?

We use only premium quality, high performance, UV resistant vinyl rated to last a minimum of 5-7 years (much longer than paint!). This commitment to quality sets us apart from other sign shops who use cheaper vinyl that will not last as long in an outdoor environment.

Permits

Do I need a permit to display signs in front of my store? How do I get a permit for my sign?

Some banners can be hung without a permit while other signs may require permission to be placed in public areas. We can help you determine whther or not your sign requires a permit and complete the process for you as part of your design and installation package.

Can you provide City of Seattle land use signs?

We frequently provide land use signs to comply with City of Seattle requirements. The city generally prefers a 4 x 8' sign on MDO- a resin-faced, plywood sign board. You would simply need to provide the city specs, give us the map, and let us know where to put it up. We understand the time sensitive nature of this situation and we take pride in meeting your deadlines.

Vehicle Wraps

What is a vehicle wrap? Is this the same as repainting my car? Will it damage my paint job?

A vehicle wrap is actually a digitally printed vinyl material that is professionally adhered to your car and can resemble a custom paint job. Your vehicle's original paint job remains untouched and even protected beneath the surface.

Why should I use a vehicle wrap versus traditional advertising?

Studies have shown that in a city with a population of 50,000 a vehicle wrap will get over 8 million impressions per year. The city of Seattle is estimated at more than tne times this amount, approaching 600,000 people, so the cost is relatively low compared to traditional forms of advertising. Whether driving through traffic or parked on the streets your vehicle wrap spreads the word about your business even while you sleep!

What is perforated vinyl?

Perforated vinyl is covered in tiny holes which allow the driver to see through rear and side windows. This design allows for safe visibility from the inside of the vehicle, but limits visibility from the outside to ensure privacy.

What other  kinds of vehicles can I wrap?

A vehicle wrap can be applied to vehicles of all shapes and sizes, from Smart Cars to semi trucks, boats to motorcycles and beyond. We are always open to new ideas and custom designs. When in doubt, just ask!

What about vehicle magnets? Can I wrap my car in these?

We will work with any size requirements you may have, but we recommend that vehicle magnets be no bigger than 4' x 18" and applied to a smooth surface. Common sizes for vehicle magnets include 10" x 20" or 12" x 24", and custom sizes can be created at no additional cost.

How long does it take to wrap my vehicle?

Once the design is finalized, installation can usually be scheduled within one week. Depending on size, most vehicles can be completed and ready for pick up in 1-2 days.

Can I wash my car with a vehicle wrap? What about waxing?

Vehicle wraps can handle any professional car wash that uses soft bristles, such as Elephant Car Wash in Seattle, or hand washing using a mild soap. To mantain the integrity and quality of the design do not use a high pressure car wash with hard bristles. Vehicle wraps can be waxed and this is recommended up to four times a year in order to keep colors vibrant.

Is a vehicle wrap permanent? Can I remove or change it?

A vehicle wrap is not permanent and we can provide removal when required. If your logo or contact information changes we can also create overlays to update your latest information.

How much do vehicle graphics cost?

Pricing on vehicle graphics are widely varied because every order is a custom job. A small logo could be installed for as low as $79 while a large scale custom design could run up to $3500. The best way to get an accurate quote is to call or email us with the year, make and model of your vehicle and some idea of the size and graphic that you're interested in. We can create a package to meet any budget.
